This Position: 

The Classification Specialist is responsible for performing a full range of technical and administrative human resources management services relating to classification. 

  • Review draft position descriptions (PDs), modifying as necessary
  • Provide classification guidance to supervisors/managers
  • Conduct audits of existing positions, upon request
  • Assign Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) exemption status
  • Apply appropriate classification standards to draft PDs, and prepare evaluation statements
  • Work fluently with Federal Wage System (FWS) and General Schedule (GS) positions
  • Classify interdisciplinary positions and “subject-to” incumbency positions
  • Collaborate with DEA HR staff on position management matters
  • Prepare Optional Form 8’s (OF8’s)
  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills
  • Experience classifying positions for a federal agency
  • Background in multiple areas of HR is preferred
